Some basic realities of human relationships is a fine place to start. These truths work on the playground as well in the bedroom. Give up any misguided notions you may harbor in these areas: you can"t control another person, period -- in any way. The only person you can control is you. The best thing for you to change is your attitude.

Then some hints for building better intimate relationships: don"t operate from sexual scarcity. Get your financial life in order. Get as healthy and fit as you can be. Work on fixing you -- if you"re always the one left behind, figure out why and work on that.

These are hard truths, that many people will discount, as they travel the road from disastrous relationship to disastrous relationship. Ignore them at your peril.

Unfortunately, listening to what a woman says she wants doesn"t usually help that much, because a man"s understanding will likely never be what she means. Every woman wants the whole package, but most know that"s not realistic. And so the negotiation begins. The most critical requirement is that women want deep emotional intimacy.

Some things that folks assume women want -- which aren"t necessarily true -- are: good looks, security, social status, and loyalty. Society believes all four of these to be important -- and it definitely won"t hurt any man to meet these criteria -- but lacking one or more isn"t usually a deal breaker. Some men are missing all four, and still plenty popular with the ladies.

The more critical minimum manly requirements, however, are confidence, a sense of humor, being detached as well as "edgy" and providing great sex. Any man who exhibits these characteristics shouldn"t spend much time without a woman in his life.

We all aspire to positive thinking, at least intermittently. But maintaining a truly positive attitude, while great in theory is hard in practice. Controlling our thoughts proves harder than other self-improvement plans. A true positive thinker remains positive, no matter what. While achieving such an enviable quality will take years of devotion, three pillars are the basis for the transformation.

1) The present moment is inevitable. No fair tacking on "if only." You can"t change the present (only the future), so failing to accept it for what it is, is fraught with stress and worry.

2) Worry is useless. Needing fear of failure and a tight deadline to motivate you via thinking you perform best under pressure is short-sighted. You"d perform better with proper planning and the absence of stress.

3) Cheerfulness is the best strategy. No amount of worry, sadness, fear, or panic will improve any situation, and certainly not the most stressful ones, including death of a loved one. The "best" strategy is not based on a single favorable outcome after the fact, but on the favorable outcome most likely to occur based on the law of averages. Thumbing your nose at that law once doesn"t change the definition of best strategy.

Realists foresee disappointment and failure from "unrealistic" positive attitudes, but they fail to understand that positive thinking is positive about the situation, not about the outcome. Positive thinking is outcome-detached. It accepts the outcome with a positive attitude, no matter what happens.

Stress is one of the most common problems of modern life. Stress is an emotional and chemical response to stimuli around us, but the problem lies inside our heads. Stress is most often associated with lack of time or money, or by relationships at work, home, or with family. Achieving better emotional control helps some folks handle stress much better than others, but some situations are inherently more stressful than others.

Ideally, the long-term solution to stress is to overhaul your attitude via personal development work. But while you"re working on that, there are some strategies to help you cope in the short-term.

If your stress originates from too little money, the logical answer is to get a better-paying job. Too little time: slow down, prioritize, be realistic, and focus. Multi-tasking is a crazy-making oxymoron. If your stress originates in your relationships, stop blaming other people; stop trying to control other people; and focus on your own life and its direction.

The best solution over-all for dealing with stress in the short-term is to know your values and your life"s purpose and to stay grounded in yourself.

Most people have no true goals, but instead only vague desires. To be practical, goals must be specific, compelling, written, reviewed daily, and aligned with your highest values. Specific goals are clear-cut and detailed. Compelling goals are big enough to create their own gravitational pull and are easier to achieve than smaller goals. And goals that aren"t aligned with your values will needlessly swerve your life off-course, unless and until you regain your direction. Writing down your goals and reviewing them daily will cement them more firmly in your mind.

Not all goals are created equal. Those more closely aligned with your values, whose cost you are willing to pay, will be immensely more fulfilling. In prioritizing your list of potential goals, you will assess the cost-benefit ratio of each. Some you will therefore drop from the list. While you may achieve only 20% of your goals, that"s okay. Those must be the most important ones. If you could easily achieve all your goals, you didn"t make them big enough.

Codependency is very common in relationships: two people who can"t be happy alone, use each other as a crutch. Independent and inter-dependent relationships while healthier, are less common, because they require two people who are at the very least independent.

Being in a codependent relationship lends a temporary stability, but each person"s neediness, in different ways, eventually drives a wedge between them. The more independent person will typically flee. Without addressing the void in each person"s life, they"ll each likely move on to yet another codependent relationship.

To break the pattern in yourself, figure out what missing piece you"re seeking and introspect the source of your void, most likely from childhood or early adulthood. Arming yourself with this information will help you interrupt the needy behavior in the future.

If you"re in a codependent relationship, you should probably end it -- it will most likely die an ugly death if you don"t. To decide if your relationship is codependent, consider the ratio of positive expressions or interactions to negative ones. Happy couples with staying power typically display a ratio of five positives per negative. If the positives number less than five, the relationship is unlikely to survive.

Then make a 100% commitment with no wiggle room. Use the Law of Attraction to replace your bad habit with a positive one. To further strengthen your resolve, employ the technique of visualization via future projection -- of both the mental, physical, and financial cost of continuing the habit, as well as the improvement in all those areas of your life when you substitute a positive habit in its place.

Many of us believe that the mind is part of the brain, but the mind is somewhat separate from the brain, because it is a system that is beyond physicality. However, at the energetic level, the mind, brain and body are interconnected.

The mind is part of the intellect, self-awareness and consciousness field of who we are. This system is where thinking truly occurs. If thinking happened only in our brains, we would act like robots because the human brain cannot tell the difference between what it sees and what it remembers. In other words, it works similar to a computer chip.

A computer chip has the ability to process information but cannot think. This is similar to how the brain works. Even though our mind is somewhat separate from our body, the state in which the mind’s energy vibrates will affect our body, because they both are energetically interconnected.

Thought is one of the main entities that affects the state of our mind, because it can decrease or increase the vibrational rate of our mind.

The six pillars of effective communication are: assertiveness, authenticity, open-mindedness, empathy, clarity and listening.

If you have something to say, say it assertively, so you will be taken seriously. Identify your values, boundaries, and own agenda, so that you can communicate them authentically. Smiling and being afraid to contradict someone may be interpreted as being inauthentic. Be open-minded to the positions of others, which helps you grow as a person.

Be empathetic to your listener, which builds common ground. The more clarity you use in communicating, the less likely it will be misconstrued. And don"t just hear; demonstrate active listening.

Most of us make friends so easily that we take the ability for granted. What is the quality of your friendships? Are they deep connections or superficial acquaintances based in technology? Do you have as many friendships as you want? How many do you actually have time for?

You can improve the quality or quantity of your friendships. Most people really don"t have time for more than two to four quality friends. Decide how much time you"re really willing to invest in your friendships. Focus on quality over quantity, the minimalist approach. If you appreciate the value of maintaining a friendship, you may realize you"re willing to make it more of priority than you originally planned. Be open to developing friendships with people who aren"t you twin. They will expand your ideas and your understanding of the world.

If you find making or keeping friends difficult consider the four most common sticking points: not being social, lacking time and energy, ruining opportunities, and / or being painfully shy or fake in conversations. Lack of socializing is most often the problem. Rectifying that will often remedy any issues in the other three areas.

Collectively, these sophisticated abilities are often referred to as the executive functions of the brain. Given that the prefrontal cortex in humans is far more capable than that of any other species on the planet, why do we still feel mentally overtaxed so much of the time?

Staying focused can be tough with a constant stream of employees, clients, emails, and phone calls demanding your attention. Amid the noise, understanding your brain’s limitations and working around them can improve your focus and increase your productivity.
